Error code E74
is one of many issues that has affected the Xbox 360. White writing
on a black screen appears when you turn your system on and you might
have red lights showing around the power button.
Some worrying facts about this error code:
Some retailers have reported a 40% incidence of this system.
Studies more or less agree that one in three systems will fail due
to one problem or another, such as the E74 error code or the “Red
Ring of Death”.
You don’t get a warning – you just turn the system on one day and
find the error code plastered across your screen.
Since 2006 over 12 million systems are believed to have experienced
problems.
So what causes this error?
The design of the Xbox 360 means that heat is not dissipated
efficiently enough causing the system to overheat.
The video scaler chip is secured with thermal glue which comes loose
due to expansion in the excessive heat.
This causes the chip to malfunction and the E74 error code appears
to let you know about it.
You can fix this yourself as follows:
Go online and buy an Xbox 360 repair guide that will walk you
through the entire process, step by step, to help you fix the
system. It is very simple and only needs a small adjustment to be
made inside the console. It sounds complicated when explained in
text but most guides come with a video that shows you what you need
to do at every step.
You will require a screwdriver and something like a metal toothpick.
You can usually get your system fixed in less than an hour and half
and you won’t experience the E74 error code every again.
